PROKOFIEV
Han-Na Chang
Dog and Trumpet version: 50999 208119 2 1 Han-Na Chang first came across the music of Prokofiev when she was just eight years old and longed to play this concerto. 'For me the Symphony- Concerto is one of the greatest cello concertos ever written and definitely one of the most important,' she says. Her partner on this album, Antonio Pappano, is renowned for his boundless energy and the freshness and enthusiasm he brings to all his musical collaborations. The coupling of Prokofiev's Symphony-Concerto and Cello Sonata was awarded the Best Concerto Recording of the Year in 2003 by the ECHO Deutscher Schallplattenpreis, the Cannes Classical Award, and the Caecilia Prize. |

STRAUSS
Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester
Dog and Trumpet version: 50999 208117 2 3 Richard Strauss's Alpine Symphony (1911-14), with its unmistakable evocations of waterfalls, cowbells, and storms and mists, describes in 22 sections a 24-hour period on a mountain as viewed from the composer's study window in Garmisch. Bruckner's Te Deum (the Latin hymn of thanksgiving to God) was composed and revised between 1881-4, and although it represents the most immediate declaration of Bruckner's unshakeable faith, it wasn't originally intended for religious service. Franz Welser-Möst is music director of the Cleveland Orchestra. In September 2002, he began his initial five-year tenure with the orchestra, and only nine months later his contract was extended through to the 2011/12 season. |

CHORAL EVENSONG
Choir of King's College, Cambridge
Dog and Trumpet version: 50999 208116 2 4 This recording, made in July 1991, was primarily set down during Choral Evensong in the ornate chapel of King's College, Cambridge. The presence of a 300-strong congregation, summoned to worship by a solitary bell, and the matchless atmosphere of a sunny summer's afternoon in King's Chapel, helped intensify the mood of reverent contemplation and sense of occasion captured by EMI's recording team. |
