
Riccardo Muti has been Music Director at La Scala, Milan, since 1986 and was Music Director of The Philadelphia Orchestra between 1980 and 1992, subsequently becoming the Orchestraıs Conductor Laureate. Between 1968 and 1980 he was Music Director of the Maggio Musicale Festival in Florence. In 1979 he became Music Director of the Philharmonia Orchestra and, in 1982, Conductor Laureate. In 1987 Muti was appointed Principal Conductor of the Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala with whom he received the Viotti dıOro in 1988. For 25 years Riccardo Muti has conducted operas and concerts at the Salzburg Festival and his performances of Mozartıs operas became a Festival tradition. In addition to his collaboration with La Scala he has conducted opera in Munich, Vienna and London. He is a regular guest of the Berlin Philharmonic and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras. In January 1991 he conducted the Vienna Philharmonic at the inaugural concert for the Mozart celebrations in Salzburg, on 22 March 1992 he conducted the orchestra in celebration of the its 150th birthday, and on 1 January 2000 Riccardo Muti conducted them in the special New Yearıs Day concert of the new millennium.
